OpenAI has introduced GPT-6.1 Terra for computer use, visual understanding and coding tasks. The company says it improves on GPT-5.6 Terra while cutting standard API prices in half.

Pricing and availability

Pricing is $1 per million input tokens, $0.05 per million cached input tokens and $5 per million output tokens. Token prices should not be confused with the total cost of a workflow: task duration, retries and reasoning effort all influence the final bill.

Terra is available in ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users, and through the API as gpt-6.1-terra. Model availability does not mean every business workflow is ready for unattended deployment.

What improved

On Agents’ Last Exam, an evaluation of professional tasks, OpenAI reports a 15-percentage-point gain over GPT-5.6 Terra at medium reasoning effort, at about one-third the cost per task. These are company-reported results under its evaluation conditions, not a guarantee for every application or environment.

The focus is connecting an understanding of documents and screens with actions. Processing an invoice, for example, requires identifying details, navigating accounting software and entering accurate information, rather than simply generating a written answer.

How businesses should evaluate it

Businesses in Israel can start with a defined, repetitive workflow, such as invoice entry or CRM updates, and measure correct completion, handling time and manual corrections. Before using real documents, teams should define permissions, information access and approval requirements for sensitive actions.

Lower token pricing helps, but cost per correct result is the more useful metric. If every action needs human review and repair, part of the saving disappears.
